The challenge

Lemnis Lighting develops, produces and markets a choice of lighting solutions based on LED technology. The Pharox range of retrofit LED light bulbs was specifically developed to replace existing incandescent bulbs and was to be extended with an MR16 halogen lamp replacement.

The process of developing a LED lamp is surprisingly complex, demanding an integral approach combining optics, low cost power electronics, miniature mechanics and mass production. As a new product category, moreover, the design rules must still be established.

The solution

Working closely with Lemnis, the design problem was identified and translated into a series of projects. Tightly managed by Lemnis, a consortium of international partners raced to execute these projects under heavy time pressure.

People Creating Value

We were responsible for designing, developing and monitoring the quality of the mechanical and thermal architecture of the MR16 lamp. Various optical measurement instruments were developed and small series of prototype lamps were produced. Hedon developed the lamp electronics.
