On Friday, May 25, a group of People Creating Value colleagues took part in a bread-baking workshop. Our long-time sandwich roll supplier, a company called Broodbode, in Enschede, had presented the workshop to us. As we are well acquainted with the their sumptuous rolls and heavenly fillings, we were naturally more than willing to go backstage in the kitchen to see the master at work.
We were welcomed with a drink, after which aprons were donned and we got to work. The evening was spent weighing, kneading, slicing, decorating and baking various kinds of bread. The baker had already prepared a few loaves for us, so while we were diligently at work, a few loaves of spring bread were browning in the oven, and the fragrance of freshly baked bread wafted through the bakery.
The evening meal was fresh bread from the oven, thickly layered with cold cuts and sauces. A bowl of vegetable soup was the perfect accompaniment. After the meal, when the last loaves came out of the oven, everyone headed home heavily laden with filled bags. It was a wonderful – and educational – evening. Thank you, Bob and Roos van der Velde of Broodbode!
