Zeno is primarily interested in technology and is happiest when involved in the more practical aspects of the product development process. At Grolsch, he gained experience in the optimization of packaging machinery and processes; as a Product Engineer, he will mainly focus on the development and construction of prototypes and test setups. “In the past, I taught a number of practical workshops at the University of Twente, exploring topics such as model building, prototype building and familiarization with the machinery in the workshop. I also took part in various projects in which I realized a proof of concept. This involves building a prototype, on the basis of which it can be demonstrated that the principle works,” explains Zeno. “It’s technology in practice – which is what I enjoy most.”

Unlike Grolsch, People Creating Value is a service-oriented firm, on top of being a much smaller company, as well. It must be quite a change?
“Yes, it certainly is. I completed my final master’s project at Grolsch – on the development of a retail ready packaging – and was asked to stay. What I’ve noticed most up until now is that hierarchy is so much more important in a larger company that in a smaller one,” he said. The atmosphere at People Creating Value is relaxed and informal, the team is friendly. Yet at the same time, they’re highly result-oriented. The lines of communication are short, you can respond flexibly and fast in a project. You have all the information you need right away.”
